INTERACTIVE WAYFINDING MIXED WITH CRM SOFTWARE SOLUTION DEPLOYED AT RIVES DE L'ORNE (CAEN)

A new mall with 75 stores named “Les Rives de l’Orne” opened in Caen (France) in May 2013.

This vast architectural and district revitalization project (shops, offices, flats, cinema, pedestrian zones) managed by the Apsys group trusted ViaDirect for the design, implementation, and maintenance of its digital facilities.

ViaDirect deployed in this mall its new concept of “îlot digital” (“Digital Island”) with a global offer: kiosk + hardware + software + service and maintenance around the needs of digitalization of commercial spaces. The design of the “îlot digital” was also achieved by ViaDirect.

The “îlot digital”, a registered trademark of ViaDirect, was designed to answer the different functions of digital in public areas: information, orientation, loyalty card, and CRM, promotion.

The heart of this “package” is a set composed of a minimum of:

  • 2 last generation professional 40” LED anti-glare and high-brightness large screens
  • a bar code reader compatible with mobile phones screens
  • an RFID reader (for contactless cards and recent Android smartphones)
  • a thermal printer

The set is completed for Les Rives de l’Orne with 2 x 32” LED HD screens located in the restrooms.

The ViaDirect software associated with this “îlot digital” can :

  • help users find their way with routes displayed in 3D maps
  • provide information on the current events of the mall
  • display and print the coupons and promotions
  • display and manage the loyalty program

The whole benefits from the integration expertise of ViaDirect for software, high technology systems, and networks, enabling exemplary security and availability. 

The “îlot digital” of ViaDirect is also designed entirely around Web Service operations. Our software platform is either sending data to others or is fed by existing customer’s information systems. The “îlot digital” of Rives de l’Orne is based on the ViaDirect information system that also provides a Web Service in order to feed the mall website and mobile applications (stores, promotions, job vacancies, and all the loyalty program management).

For the “loyalty card” of this shopping center, ViaDirect worked upstream to design the mechanical cross-channel implementation (internet, kiosks, emailing, SMS, welcome desk). The CRM system developed by ViaDirect allows a loyalty card to be created in seconds and even allows its dematerialization (this avoids queues at the welcome desk).


ViaDirect, pioneer of the digitalization of public and commercial spaces in France* is proud to still continue today the challenge of innovation with this “îlot digital”.

This “îlot digital” concept has already been adopted by several operators in commercial real estate with deployments in the coming months.
