The Lyon Saint-Exupery Airport continues its digital development in 2014. The installation is composed of 3 phases and achievements today 5 information and wayfinding multitouch kiosks.

In 2012, the airport chose the ViaDirect interactive solution and decided to experiment with a multi-touch kiosk in Terminal 2’s boarding area to measure travelers’ reactions regarding this prototype.

The airport ordered 2 more wayfinding kiosks to equip Terminals 1 and 3’s boarding areas as the experimentation was a success. 

In view of the very positive feedback from travelers from Lyon, the airport decided to complete its digital offer and asked ViaDirect to install 2 multitouch screens in Terminal 1 and 2’s arrivals area with a specific version of the ViaDirect application. Thanks to these devices, ViaDirect can inform and orientate travelers including helping them prepare their exit.


The Airport has entrusted ViaDirect with the complete implementation of the solution: kiosks implementation and design (expect the arrival ones), hardware integration, software, and maintenance.

The 3 kiosks installed in boarding areas are 40’’ “Pad” kiosks designed by our exclusive ViaDirect catalog. In the arrivals areas, 2 40’’ screens complete the airport’s information kiosks (see opposite pictures).

Kiosks make use of the latest tactile screen technologies to propose an ultra-slim design that respects robustness constraints required in public places (ultra-small form factor PC, HD LED display, optical multi-touch frame).



The 5 kiosks have many features to inform and orientate in boarding areas but also concerning the travelers’ destinations:

  • Real-time 3D wayfinding of users
  • Multitouch map of the Terminal
  • Implementation of 3D models (planes)
  • Interactive map of the world with every destination which is being served by the airport
  • Information about jet lag, local weather of every destination, currency conversion rates, …
  • Customer opinion collection application provided by the airport respecting and connected in Web Services
  • Compatibility with airport facilities standards of data

The ViaDirect software is adapted for the 2 kiosks which guide travelers coming to Lyon:

  • Car rental with callback system (immediate free call)
  • Public transport: tram, regional bus, train station, Lyon center shuttle
  • Taxis and parking
  • Airport services
  • Nearby hotels with callback system
  • Restaurants and stores in the airport public area
  • Customer opinion collection application provided by the airport respecting the airport process quality
